Rust Inhibiting Metal Primer

Product Description

Conklin Encase™ is a versatile and effective water-based, rust inhibiting metal primer that is suitable for use on a broad range of interior and exterior metal surfaces. It produces a unique effect of penetrating into rust and expelling air. This makes it useful for application on non-rusted as well as rusted metal surfaces.

The primer is formulated for use in combination with Conklin’s Rust-Off™ Rust & Oxide Remover. Well-cured Conklin Encase™ serves as a primer for the application of the following top coats with early recoats providing the best adhesion:

    • Precise coverage rates depend on the condition of the metal roof

    Application

    When applying Conklin Encase™:

    • Ensure that the personnel using the primer have read and completely understood the safety data sheet
    • If personnel are spraying the primer, make sure they use a NIOSH-approved mist / dust mask
    • Also, ensure the personnel are wearing other, relevant personal protective equipment (PPE) because the primer:
      • Contains chemicals that the State of California lists as those that can cause birth defects, cancer, and reproductive disorders
      • Is harmful or even fatal when swallowed
    • Mix thoroughly before use
    • Do not dilute or thin the primer
    • Temperature and Moisture guidelines:
      • Ambient temperature must be 400F or above
      • Relative humidity must be below 80%
      • Surface temperature should be at least 50F above dew point
      • Do not apply during inclement weather
    • Surface Preparation for new or old galvanized steel:
      • Use wire brushing, sandblasting, or scraping to eliminate loose rust, run-down paint, and scales from rusty and deteriorated metal surfaces
      • Spray a 1:20 solution of Rust-Off™ Rust & Oxide Remover
      • Use water to totally wash-off chemical residue and dirt
      • Allow the surface to dry completely
      • Apply Conklin Encase™
    • Surface Preparation for factory finished metal surfaces such as Kynar coatings and siliconized polyester:
      • Spray a 1:20 solution of Rust-Off™ Rust & Oxide Remover
      • Use water to totally wash-off chemical residue and dirt
      • Allow the surface to dry completely
      • Apply Conklin Encase™
    • For application on small-area surfaces and for touch-up jobs, use a natural fiber brush of good quality
    • For application on large-area surfaces, use spray equipment or roller
    • When using spray equipment, set the spray tip at 0.015 to 0.017
    • Allow the primer to dry before applying the top coat
    • Dispose the primer in a manner that complies with local, state, and federal regulations regarding hazardous waste

    Storage Requirements

    • Store the primer at a cool place that is:
      • Above 400F
      • Protected from freezing
      • Out of reach of children
    • Close containers tightly when not using the primer
